'Match of Legends' Portisch - Spassky in Hungary
Before Kramnik - Leko match to be played April 24-29 in Miskolc, a rapid-chess match between 10th World Champion Boris Spassky and the repeated candidate for the title Lajos Portisch will take place in Heviz, Hungary, April 13-15. Six games, 20 m + 5 s/move, two games a day, will be played. Portisch was 70 on April 4, as well as Spassky on January 30.

Four GMs have finished with 7/9: G.Kamsky, Z.Izoria, I.Ibragimov and A.Stripunsky. Tie-breaks gave the first place to Gata winning a blitz game against Zviad. Six other tournaments have finished simultaneously, overall number of players being 384.

Rapid-chess final standings: 1. A.Shirov, 2.D.Fridman, 3. I.Sokolov, 4. B.Gelfand - 7,5/9. 7 points scored J.Polgar, Sh.Mamedyarov, A.Grischuk (places 5-7), V.Ivanchuk (10th), V.Anand (12th), A.Karpov finished with 6,5. There were 289 players in the tournament! A.Shirov was the best in Fischer chess (221 players) also - 8/9, followed by K.Sasikiran, L.Fressinet, V.Ivanchuk and A.Grischuk with 7,5. Blitz event (222 players) was wiped out by Ivanchuk -8,5/9 with R.Mamedov and Grischuk full point behind.
