As Trainers Council of St. Petersburg Chess Federation reports, drawing of lots before the start of 80th city championship will take place today. The 12 players are: GMs V.Yemelin, D.Yevseev, M.Makarov and V.Loginov, IMs P.Anisimov, O.Biriukov, A.Eliseev, S.Solovjov, A.Smirnov, A.Lanin, and FMs M.Zacurdajev and R.Lovkov. Prize fund is not announced for the first time in the last 15 years. Three winners will qualify for the higher league of Russia championship.

The matches are to reveal four qualifiers to join V.Kramnik, V.Anand, P.Svidler and A.Morozevich in fighting for World Champion title in Mexico, September 2007. First stage pairs: L.Aronian – M.Carlsen, P.Leko – M.Gurevich, R.Ponomariov – S.Rublevsky, B.Gelfand – R.Kasimdzhanov, E.Bacrot – G.Kamsky, A.Grischuk – V.Malakhov, J.Polgar – E.Bareev, M.Adams – A.Shirov. A match consists of six classic games (120 m/40 + 60 m/20 + 15 m with 30 s/move) and, if necessary, tie-breaks: four rapid (25 m + 10 s/move), two blitz (5 m + 10 s/move) games, and at last a 'sudden death' game 6 m/5 m, Black qualifying in case of a draw. The inauguration of Vladimir Nabokov's monument, first in Russia, took place yesterday in the yard of Faculty of Philology of St. Petersburg University. Vasily Azemsha, the author, named it 'Lonely King'. The famous artist and sculptor has many remarkable works concerning chess, some of them having first appeared at our site.
