In Memoriam A.B.Roshal (26.08.1936 – 21.05.2007)
Alexander Borisovich Roshal, Chief Editor of '64 – Chess Review', died yesterday in Moscow. The man has gone who had been personifying native chess press for many years. For almost 40 years he has been publishing '64' magazine and for this activity only he deserved great gratitude of thousands people waiting for the next issue. Only Roshal himself knew how much it cost him to save the edition at hard times. The magazine has survived having taken away part of health and strength of its editor and publisher. Alexander Roshal always was in the center of chess events, considered it his duty to take part in every process in Soviet and Russian chess field. He was an influential person in the chess world: planned a system of the world championship, headed press-centers at many largest competitions. One of Roshal's air-holes was troublesome chess 'Oscar'. He could not award the twelfth prize himself... The best monument to Alexander Roshal will be to continue the matter of his life: while '64' keeps issuing, he will be in the process invisibly, and we shall meet him every month...
